Connecting to Autodoor fails after selecting door colour

If you see an error message in the app after selecting the colour of your Smart Autodoor, this may indicate your control panel was unable to contact our server to complete the provisioning process. Please check that the wireless network you connected the control panel to has a functioning internet connection, and no settings are in place that prevent the control panel from connecting out to our server.

Some parental control or network restriction settings can interfere with the ability of the control panel to contact our systems. If you have any such settings in place, you could try turning them off temporarily to see if this resolves the issue. In many cases such systems will have an allow list which you can add the control panel to to prevent any future problems.

Why doesn’t my control panel “wake up” when I open the app?

If you’re running the control panel on batteries rather than mains power, it will sleep to save power. Whilst it’s asleep, it is not connected to your wireless network, so there is no way to send a command to it to instruct it to wake up.

If your control panel wakes up whilst you’re using the app, the app will communicate with the control panel and ask it to stay awake while you’re active within the app, this will allow the control panel to be more responsive to your commands.

Why does the app require access to my location?

On Android devices you may be asked to grant permission to access your location when you try to set up a new device. Omlet does not collect, store or use your location as part of the App functionality. Android includes the location permission with the permission to access bluetooth devices, because certain types of bluetooth beacon devices can be used to determine your physical location.

You will need to grant permission in order to be able to discover and set up new devices, but you can disable the permission afterwards if you wish – the app will work fine with it disabled

Why do my batteries only last a week?

There are a couple of reasons why you may be experiencing poor battery life. If you’re running your control panel without connecting it to Wifi, then you may be running an older version of the firmware which has some known issues with poor battery life. To check your firmware version, scroll through the menu to Factory Reset, and the current version will be displayed underneath. If your version is older than 1.0.15, then you will experience these issues (likely you’re running 1.0.8 in this case). If you’re running an old version, follow this guide to update to the latest and resolve the problem.

If you have your Smart Autodoor connected to wifi, the update will have been applied automatically. If you are experiencing poor battery life in this situation, please ensure that your power settings are set to “Power Saving”, and Deep Sleep is enabled. Why does my Smart Autodoor not open when I think it should on light mode?

To prevent the door from opening unintentionally in response to torches, headlights, security lights and so on, the light level detected must remain above the level set for opening for 15 minutes before the door will open.

In the mornings you may notice in the Omlet App that the current light level reading is reported at a level higher than the level set to open the door, but the door is still closed. This is completely normal. Wait for 15 minutes, and you should see that the door has opened within that time.

What wifi networks are supported?

The Smart control panel will work with any 2.4 Ghz wireless network that supports WPA2/3-PSK encryption. Unsecured wireless networks are also supported.

Note: The Smart control panel will not work with WPA2/3 Enterprise networks, or with networks using the 5 Ghz frequency bands

Why is the coop light flickering?

If your coop light is flickering whilst turned on, this could indicate that your batteries are beginning to get low. Try replacing your batteries with a new set of good quality AA batteries

What is the correct light level for my Omlet Automatic Door opener?

The correct light level will vary depending your geographic location. Generally the default light level which comes with the Omlet Autodoor works well.

You can also find out how the light level behavious in your area by clicking on the setting of the device. Select “Technical Information”. You can scroll down to the light section. You should then see a graph showing your light levels.

Will all my chickens go to bed at the same time?

If you watch your chickens for a few days you will see that in most cases, they will all go into the coop within half an hour of each other.

Keep note of at what time this happens, so you can select the correct time or light level on the door.

You can always use the App to manually open or close the door if you notice a chicken has not made it in.

How does the Omlet Autodoor Crush Detector work?

The Autodoor uses sophisticated safety sensors to protect hens that dawdle in the doorway, just like elevator doors. After gently nudging and opening again, the Autodoor will attempt to close 5 more times until the path is clear.

Whats the difference between Restart and Reset?

Restart on the Omlet app will turn your device off and turn it back on again.

Reset on the Omlet app will factory reset your device. It will remove all configuration settings. You will need to reprovision the device to use it in smart mode again. You should Reset the device if you wish to remove the device from your account and sell it.

How do I perform a factory reset on my Omlet Autodoor?

Scroll down in the menu of the Control Panel until you get to “Factory Reset”.
Press and hold the “OK”-button until the screen changes to “Are You Sure” and a flashing “N”.
Change the flashing “N” (for no) to “Y” (for yes) by using the arrow buttons.
Hold OK-button until the screen changes.

How do I update the Omlet Autodoor Firmware?

If your Omlet Autodoor is connected to wifi then it will check for updates automatically once per day. If you would like to update it manually then click on the device settings icon, click on Firmware and then click “Firmware Update”.

If your Omlet Autodoor is not connected to wifi, then you will need to connect it for it to be able to receive updates. See our guide here

Why should I add a Omlet Coop Light?

There are two main reasons that your chickens and you will love a Coop Light.

Firstly, having a light in the coop will encourage the chickens to return to their house when it gets dark. This is especially good if you have one or two hens that tend to stay out longer than the rest.

Secondly, it’s useful to have a light in the coop if you want to check on your hens when it’s dark, maybe as you come home from work or just before you go to bed. The hens won’t be bothered by you turning on the light for a minute and peeking into the coop.
